Jeff Bordok – President & CEO, Co-founder

Mr. Bordok has over 20 years experience in the evaluation, structuring, and capitalization of technology-based companies. He has raised in excess of $100 million for innovative companies in various growing industries. Prior to entering the investment securities industry, Mr. Bordok had a ten-year career in law enforcement with the Drug Enforcement Administration. Subsequent to being injured on duty, Mr. Bordok obtained a Series 7 NASD license and became a registered representative managing investments for high net worth individual clients.

Capitalizing on his investment and financial experience, Mr. Bordok became a private consultant for companies seeking growth funding and management restructuring. In the course of the consulting business Mr. Bordok has successfully funded companies in industries ranging from automotive services for new car dealers, aluminum anodizing and metals plating, resort development and cancer research. Mr. Bordok has established strategic alliances with major hospital and academic medical center clients seeking particle therapy centers. Mr. Bordok has assembled a team of industry leaders capable of providing fully integrated treatment center solutions.

Mr. Bordok earned a B. A. degree from the University of Redlands and a Masters of International Management degree from The Thunderbird School of Global Management.

 

Jim Thomson – Chief Technology Officer, Co-founder

Mr. Thomson’s professional career started in the software industry over 30 years ago holding positions as systems designer, systems and applications programmer, software project manager, systems administrator, independent consultant, and as designer of complex relational database systems.

Mr. Thomson's unique skills were further developed while employed in the capacity of management consultant for Ernst & Young Management Consulting Services Division, writing source-code for a commercial systems software houses in a variety of languages, as the founder of his own Unix systems consulting firm, and as senior management of a privately-held medical therapy services company employing over 100 occupational, physical, and speech therapists operating in 6 states.

Mr. Thomson's systems design and technical skills are complemented by practical experience and exposure to several industries including savings and loan, education, healthcare, commercial construction, aviation maintenance, and via specialized independent consulting engagements, including National Semiconductor (NYSE: NSM) – a technical comparison of competing operating systems, and J2Global (NASDAQ: JCOM) – a technical review of proprietary C source code. Mr. Thomson is also experienced in the design of specialized accounting systems, business plan creation, and financial projections-modeling.

Mr. Thomson graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in accounting, and was the recipient of a full academic scholarship. Mr. Thomson was also a teaching assistant for Auditing of Computerized Accounting Systems in the Accounting department of the USC School of Business.

 

Sarah Hutchinson - Chief Operating Officer

Ms. Hutchinson has 15 years experience managing large scale global operations, leading corporate strategy teams and consulting within the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Advanced Particle Therapy, Ms. Hutchinson held various leadership roles at an operating subsidiary of HSBC, including the role of Senior Vice President of Credit and Funding. In this role she led a global team of 450 employees and managed underwriting, operations, project management and performance analytics and was responsible for a $35 million budget and $3.9 billion in origination volume. In addition, while at HSBC Ms. Hutchinson led a strategic initiatives team and developed a track record of identifying opportunities for revenue growth and operational efficiency.

Prior to joining HSBC, Ms. Hutchinson was a consultant for a premier management and technology consulting firm where she managed multiple projects ranging from a post-acquisition integration to global technology initiatives. Ms. Hutchinson was also the Vice President of Marketing, Business Development and Product Management for an automotive finance company.

Ms. Hutchinson holds a M.B.A. from the University of Chicago in Finance and Strategy and a B.A. in International Studies from Emory University.

 

John Mishalanie – Vice President - Clinical Systems

Mr. Mishalanie comes to Advanced Particle Therapy from IBA, the leading provider of Particle Therapy solutions for the healthcare industry as Director of Business Development working closely with major University and Academic Centers in their development of Particle Therapy projects.

Before transferring to the Particle Therapy Business Unit, Mr. Mishalanie was Director of Sales (Western Region) for the Molecular Tracer Division. Under his guidance the new region experienced the highest ASP while exceeding all prior records for growth and revenue within IBA for a new marketplace. Mr. Mishalanie received the President’s Award of Excellence and Sales Region of the year award during his time there.

Mr. Mishalanie has over 30 years experience in Healthcare, focusing on the Business Development and Sales of medical devices, shared services, supply chain solutions, and capital equipment sales and services.

Before joining IBA, Mr. Mishalanie was Senior VP of Business Development at Molecular Imaging Corporation. Mr. Mishalanie was responsible for all Sales and Marketing personnel and worked closely with Operations in developing this new technology. Molecular Imaging was the nation’s first shared services provider of positron emission tomography (P. E. T.) providing joint ventures and shared services to more than 150 academic and community hospitals across the United States.

After finishing his internship at North Broward Hospital in South Florida, Mr. Mishalanie joined Scripps Memorial Hospital Department of Radiology where he continued to expand his knowledge in neuro, vascular and cardiac Imaging, interventional, and diagnostic radiology including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Computerized Tomography (CT), and hospital administration.

Mr. Mishalanie is a licensed Radiological Technologist with the American Registry of Radiological Technology (A.R.R.T.), California Society of Radiological Technologist (C.S.R.T.) and the American Society of Radiological Technology (A.S.R.T.) retired.

Mr. Mishalanie received a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Miami and an Associate degree in Science in Radiological Technology from Broward Community College.

 

Huan Giap, M.D., Ph.D. - Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Giap received his undergraduate and graduate degree in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University in 1984 and 1986. After working at a commercial nuclear reactor in Texas for several years, Dr. Giap was accepted into the M.D./Ph.D. medical scientist training program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where he received his medical degree in 1994 and completed his doctorate of philosophy in medical physics at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the same year.

For his dissertation, Dr. Giap developed a three-dimensional treatment planning software system for systemic radionuclide therapy, and his research won him the award at the Young Investigator Symposium at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine annual meeting 1993.

Dr. Giap completed his residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center with a focus on proton beam therapy. Dr. Giap then went on to complete a clinical fellowship at Scripps Clinic in stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy where he worked as clinical radiation oncologist from 1998 to 2008.

Dr. Giap has served as the lecturer for the medical oncology fellows at Scripps Clinic and radiotherapist students. Dr. Giap has performed research, published, and given presentations in the field of vascular brachytherapy to prevent coronary artery restenosis, biophysical modeling, radio-labeled antibody, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, partial breast irradiation, radio-embolization with Y-90 microspheres. Dr. Giap was appointed to The Scripps Research Institute Skaggs Scholar.

Dr. Giap was one of the contributors to the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in developing several clinical guidelines (Radioembolization with Brachytherapy Device Yttrium-90 microspheres and Total Body Irradiation).

Dr. Giap also serves as the Chair for the Protocol Development Committee - Thoracic Section for CyberKnife Society. Dr. Giap has taught refresher courses at the annual ASTRO national meetings (2001, 2005, and 2006) on the topic of “Vascular brachytherapy” and “Radiation therapy for benign diseases”.

Dr. Giap serves as a member of several ASTRO committees including the Annual Meeting and Program Committee, Information Technology Development and Resource Committee, and Targeted Radionuclide Therapy Committee.

Dr. Giap reviews meeting abstracts and serves as the moderator of the scientific session at the annual ASTRO meetings. Dr. Giap also serves as a reviewer of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics and Medical Physics journals. Dr. Giap has been invited as a lecturer for several clinical symposiums, including the Harvard Medical School Annual Brachytherapy Review (2004).

Dr. Giap is the author of several book chapters and dozens of peer-reviewed journal publications. Dr. Giap has worked with multiple medical industries in developing treatment planning software and radiation medical devices.

Dr.Giap is appointed to be the Chairman of the Publication Committee of PTCOG (Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group)

 

Casey Gilley, CPA – Controller

Mr. Gilley brings a mixture of entrepreneurial success balanced with a solid accounting foundation to Advanced Particle Therapy. His career began at McGladrey, the 5th largest CPA firm in the world, where his client base was focused on mid-sized privately owned companies across a variety of industries including health care, construction, and finance.

Mr. Gilley has performed financial statement audits, due diligence reports, tax consulting, and internal control consulting while at McGladrey. His tax experience included the preparation of federal and state income tax returns for businesses along with high net worth individuals.

Prior to joining Advanced Particle Therapy team, Mr. Gilley built an award winning design-build landscaping company with approximately 40 employees. The company was included on the Inc. 500 list of America’s Fastest Growing Companies. He gained valuable leadership and business management skills that included financial reporting, budgeting, strategic planning, customer relations, and project management. The company was acquired by a large commercial maintenance firm where Mr. Gilley functioned as the Corporate Controller.

Mr. Gilley was awarded a President’s Scholarship to attend California State University, Fullerton where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration/Accounting. Mr. Gilley has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 2002.
